Research Investigates Cleanliness of Banknotes

Scientists at Harper Adams University tested the cleanliness of GUARDIAN polymer by investigating bacterial survival on various banknote substrates. Lead researcher Professor Frank Vriesekoop stated, "We found that bacteria found on human hands are less likely to adhere to plastic banknotes compared to the older cotton-based UK pound notes, the linen-cotton based American dollar notes, and the washi paper based Japanese Yen notes." He also added, "Furthermore, bacteria found on human hands die off more quickly when on plastic banknotes."
