CCL Secure uses highly specialised polymer films that have been designed and developed by our sister company Innovia Films - a business with more than 90 years of experience behind its operations.
This complementary and collaborative relationship offers unrivalled access to innovative, efficient and effective films, as well as transferrable research, development and expertise.
Innovia Films produces two bank-grade films for exclusive use by CCL Secure – Propanote™ Clarity C, which is used in GUARDIAN™ substrate, and Propanote™ Opacity W, which is used in SPARTAN™ banknotes.
To optimise security and durability, bespoke equipment and processes are used in the manufacture of our specialised bank grade films. These exclusive, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films are produced using a unique ‘bubble’ process. First, the film is inflated in large, tube-shaped bubbles. Then it is heated to softening point before being mechanically stretched to equal extents in opposite directions.
This ‘biaxial orientation’ imparts unrivalled toughness, temperature resistance, and enhanced barrier properties. It also embeds a unique signature into the film, which can be detected via machine inspection at speed. The process ensures counterfeit banknotes can be quickly identified and removed from circulation.
