CCL Secure Supplies GUARDIAN™ Substrate for Bank of England's King Charles III Notes

CCL Secure is proud to continue its collaboration with the Bank of England in supplying GUARDIAN™ substrates for the new King Charles III banknotes. This demonstrates our commitment to providing secure and sustainable substrate solutions.

The notes entered circulation on 5th June, the new design of the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes will feature The King’s image on the front as well as in cameo within the transparent window. CCL Secure has proudly supported the Bank of England with all its polymer denominations, including the first £5 polymer note back in 2016.

The decision to feature King Charles III on the new banknotes is a significant moment in British history, and we are honoured to be a part of this milestone. Neil Sanders, CCL Secure’s Vice President and Managing Director, said the team worked closely with the Bank of England to ensure the highest standards of quality and security are met in the substrate design and supply of the substrate.

“We recognise the significance of the new banknotes bearing the image of King Charles III, a symbol of continuity and tradition in the monarchy. The collaboration between CCL Secure and the Bank of England, demonstrates a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability through polymer banknotes and we are proud to support the bank’s vision for stronger, safer, cleaner, and greener currency”.

Andrew Bailey, Bank of England’s Governor, when meeting his majesty said, it was a big moment as before his majesty, only his mother Queen Elizabeth II has appeared on British banknotes.

All polymer banknotes carrying a portrait of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II remain legal tender, and will co-circulate with the new notes.

As a way to minimise the environmental and financial impact of the design change, new notes will only be printed to replace worn banknotes and to meet any overall increase in demand for banknotes.
