Brunei Darussalam and Singapore issue commemorative $50 notes on Guardian™ to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of their Currency Interchangeability Agreement
5 July 2017
Newton, Singapore – To commemorate this special occasion, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, jointly launched a set of two $50 commemorative Guardian™ polymer notes, comprising one Brunei Darussalam $50 note and one Singapore $50 note, at a ceremony held at the Singapore Istana.
The Brunei Darussalam and Singapore commemorative notes on Guardian™ polymer substrate feature the same design elements and layout.
A portrait of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is shown on the Brunei Darussalam note, while the Singapore note features a portrait of Singapore's first President, Mr Yusof bin Ishak.
A unique element in both notes is the see-through, colour-shifting window featuring Latitude™ that depicts Brunei Darussalam's Istana Nurul Iman and Singapore's Istana.
Latitude™ is a substrate-integrated diffractive optically variable device (DOVD) that uses nanoparticles and is not restricted to a conventional applied patch or stripe format. This easy to recognise Level 1 feature can be validated in both reflection, with the holographic effect easily viewed by tilting the banknote in any direction, as well as in transmission.
